Permaculture in Limerstone

Permie Group Jan08This February, the Group was invited to hold its monthly meeting in Limerstone.

George & Trish opened their woodland plot to us, with a welcoming fire from the brush cut as they have thinned their border trees.

George told us that these evergreens were too dense, and the shade would make growing vegetables impossible. We replaced the hedging with blackthorn and rose, starting up a windbreak in the prevailing-wind corner.

Attended by 19 adults, 4 children and two dogs, we enjoyed a cuppa and several different cakes. Introductions were made for the benefit of the 5 new members, and discussions of various issues included this Transition Island Blog.

Two people brought presents: a pile of willow stems (complete with a demonstration of cutting whips to plant), and some mulberry cuttings. Thanks to Richard and Rowan respectively.

Membership is free and open to all interested. Next month, we meet at Wendy’s allotment in Shanklin, directions to follow by email. Sign up for the email newsletter at the Islenad Permaculture Group website if interested
