500 recycled carrier bags donated to the exciting Ventbag project in Ventnor. The aim is to become the first town on the Island to be Plastic Carrier Bag Free.
Why? The problem - 1,000,000 plastic bags are used globally every MINUTE!
The results - drowned dolphins, strangled animals, long-lasting litter…
Our greengrocer added its intention onto its daily chalk board.
Outside of the greengrocer, the heaviest and most delighted user was our local off licence, citing great customer satisfaction with the bags for carrying cases of beer and bottles, and openly saying that they replaced the previous habit of giving customers multiple plastic bags to take the weight.
Our launderette is also handing them out to customers walking in with black bin bags full of washing.
This is just a very small part of the overall project that is developing brilliantly. We have never known a community project to capture the imagination of so many residents in such a short space of time.
