Congratulations to the Footprint Trust for organising a day on Future Energy.

The day started with an advice shop on energy-saving and energy-generating methods. Professional suppliers were there to describe renewable energy sources: wind turbines, solar panels, air-and ground-heat-pumps, combined heat and energy boilers.

The Footprint Trust stall was present, giving free low-energy light-bulbs and a range of eco-friendly advice, Age Concern, Trading Standards and Friends of the Earth were also there.

Civil engineer Jackie Carpenter spoke in the evening about Climate Change and Peak Oil. She has created an Energy Balance game to demonstrate the factors involved in working towards a sustainable island, which can be found via the Island Permaculture website.

Transition Island gave out leaflets and posters to promote a public meeting on community action in planning for these challenges in Northwood House on 18/2/08, 7 - 9pm.
