Britain lags behind the rest of the world in dealing with the ‘plastic poison’ caused by the distribution of billions of single-use carrier bags, says the Daily Mail.
Three billion bags given away annually by retailers, creating long-lived litter and life-threatening traps for wildlife.
Consumers, governments and retailers around the globe have moved to banish the bags, a symbol of urban waste.
France and Ireland have proven that consumers will accept this move.
China’s largest plastic bag maker has closed following a state-led environmental campaign discouraging plastics use.
Opinion:
While a plastic bag is a small article in comparison to the enormity of the Peak Oil & Climate Change challenges facing us… IT IS A START.
The more people accept the problem and start to do small but frequent things to change it, the better chance our children and grandchildren have.

I’m a Polymer Engineer, and I know the way it works in the industry.Let me for the record tell you that I think the plastic bags are the biggest menace we have! But the fact is, this problem by the time it is tackled or rather if at all tackled will be too late!what we can do, on our individual end is to make sensible decisions. Dispose them in clusters so it is easily taken up for recycling, recycle it to the stores around, carry a bag when you think you might get a plastic bag,and so on!you know these small little things if done but many individuals can reduce the catastrophic effects these bags may have in the future!!!!
