Tony Blair, former British prime minister, has begun a rapid tour of Asian capitals to help break the deadlock over climate change.

He says it is ‘urgent‘ that action is taken to cut global carbon emissions by 50 per cent.

It would be easy to be cynical about his one-man mission to save the planet…

One book I read recently sugested that for every innovation we have, nationalism counteracts it. I’m not sure how you would measure this… but it makes some sense.

Opinion:
We need Kissinger-types to fulfill the ancient role of travelling minstrel.

The news-carrier/peace-maker was really important when tribes lived more than a few days’ walk apart and each contact could start a war.

Now we all live a few hours flight apart… but we still need the same function.
